A Friendly Reminder from the Goldfish Sonic Electric Toothbrush:
8020Plan
"An 80-year-old should still have 20 teeth"—this concept was first proposed by Japanese scholars and has since gained recognition from scholars around the world. In 2001, the World Health Organization officially launched the “8020 Initiative,” calling on people to make retaining 20 teeth by age 80 a life goal. This involves maintaining basic oral function or, through minimal restorative treatment, restoring oral function as much as possible to achieve an ideal quality of life.
Survey Data
The results of the Second National Epidemiological Survey on Oral Health show that: China’s elderly population is still far from achieving the “8020” goal; fewer than half of older adults meet this standard, and many middle-aged and even young people are already showing signs of “age-related dental decline,” such as tooth sensitivity, cavities, bleeding gums, loose teeth, and tooth loss. People are forced to spend large sums of money on fillings, dental treatments, dental repairs, or dental prosthetics. Therefore, it is necessary to make a concerted effort to promote oral health education.
(According to estimates, only about 35% of people in China aged 80 and older may still have 20 permanent teeth.)
The Dangers of Oral Diseases
Oral health is a window into overall health, and the link between oral health issues and systemic diseases has been confirmed by numerous clinical studies. Experts point out: “Poor oral health can increase the risk of serious health problems, such as heart disease, stroke, and diabetes.”
Firsthand Observation
Many older adults believe that losing teeth is a natural part of aging, but this is not the case. Some people live into their eighties or nineties with perfectly healthy teeth, while others lose their teeth as early as their forties or fifties. In reality, teeth are not lost due to “aging,” but rather due to “disease.” From red, swollen gums to bleeding gums, from gingivitis to periodontitis, and finally to tooth loss—all of these are consequences of people’s lack of oral health awareness.
Goldfish Electric Toothbrush would like to remind everyone:
Everyone should pay attention to their oral health, nip problems in the bud, brush their teeth properly to prevent bacterial growth and dental diseases, and undergo regular dental checkups—seeking treatment promptly if any issues are found. By doing so, everyone can meet the requirements of the “8020 Plan,” ensuring that even in our later years, we can still have white, straight teeth and flash a confident, beautiful smile.
